The Thing Movie

Universal has greenlit The Thing, a movie prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 cult movie of the same name. Director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr has been hired to helm the project based on a script by Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer (who wrote the script of the latest remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street). The film is starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Lloyd Walker, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The Thing will be released in theaters on April 29, 2011.

Here's a first picture from the set of the Thing movie, they were filming in Toronto, Canada:

The Thing MoviePlot:
"Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to Antarctica for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.
When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish."

This prequel to the Thing is welcome! The original Thing was indeed a great horror movie, it kind of looks dated nowadays though... With the latest technologies The Thing will be even scarier!
